What is Biometrics?
Biometrics is the science
of using a measurable physical characteristic to verify the claimed identity of
a person. It is a technology that electronically compares, measures, and
records physical characteristics of a person for later/repeated identification
and verification.
In the late nineteenth
century it was discovered that no two people have the same fingerprint
patterns. This is the main reason for fingerprints being widely used in
criminal investigations. Therefore fingerprints should help pinpoint the
identity of a person and when used for access control the fingerprint can
resolve the problem of identification.
